The Master Schedule

You may not know this, but my husband is a Project Manager.  Basically his job is to schedule projects and ensure they run smoothly in a timely fashion.  So naturally I deferred to his expertise in the matter when it came to our master renovation schedule.  He has a much better grasp on how long things will take, where our cash flow will be when, and in which order things ought to happen.

Personally, I have fears this is all super ambitious and in reality this will all take us ten years to complete.  But, Jake seems confident and I’m loving his go-get-’em attitude so we are going to jump right in and renovate away!

Here is what the plan is looking like right now:

September

  • Install overhead light fixtures in: living room, den, guest bedroom, office bedroom, and master bedroom
  • Remove popcorn ceiling in den
  • Prime and paint paneling in den
  • Get a new door handle for the sliding glass door in the den (right not it’s a broken off knob that I am unable to use)

October

  • Paint Guest Bedroom
  • Paint Master Bedroom
  • Paint Office Bedroom
  • Install flooring
  • Finish the stairway: paint banister and toekicks

November

  • Begin building kitchen cabinets (ooh, big and daunting!)

December

  • Take down kitchen/dining room wall
  • Move the gas line/pay someone to move it
  • Finish building kitchen cabinetry

January

  • Install kitchen cabinets
  • Fix sink chip
  • Install countertops
  • Install appliances

February

  • Paint living room, hallways, stairway, ktichen, and dining room

March

  • Paint and dress up doors
  • Update door trim throughout house

April

  • Paint and clean windows
  • Update window trim throughout house
  • Install kitchen backsplash

May

  • Upgrade/replace vanity in half bath
  • Add board and batten trim to half bath
  • Paint half bath
  • Upgrade/replace mirror and light fixtures of half bath
  • Install a pocket door for half bath
  • Replace toilet in half bath

June

  • Upgrade/replace vanity in full bath
  • New tub base
  • Tile shower surround
  • Paint full bath
  • Close up doorways in full bath (for future master walk-in closet/powder room)
  • Upgrade/replace mirror and light fixtures of full bath
  • Replace toilet in full bath
  • Tile floor in full bath

What do you think, can we do it? 😉  They’re exciting goals either way, and if we don’t hit a deadline, no biggie.  We aren’t going to stress ourselves over it all, just try to enjoy it.

Besides, these are mostly big change items, I’d like to be able to put some decorating touches on some finished rooms in the meantime.  Those posts are funner sometimes anyway, right? 😉

Also there are some future to do items that we have refrained from scheduling at this point, but will add on in the future when we know a better timeframe.  And of course, we did the scheduling in excel… 😉

Hopefully I’ll be able to check in here every month on our goals and start getting some items crossed off!  (Note there is already one item crossed off, and that feels good :))

  1. I am cracking up about the excel document! But really, it’s brilliant. My husband isn’t an actual PM, but he’s our house PM. I’m the creative director. 😛 or something. Cant’ wait to see all your projects come to life!!
