This is the final post in this Decorating for your Personality series! Last, but not least, we are taking a look at the ISTJ (Duty Fulfiller).  This the last post in a sixteen part series looking at how your Myers Briggs personality profile affects your decorating choices.  Last time we examined ESTP (Promoter) and principles they should be considering in their home decor. In this series, it’s important to remember that everyone has different tastes when it comes to home decor, but each of us have preferences that can often be traced back to our personality profile and how we perceive and react to the world.  By better understanding our personality profile, we can make informed decorating decisions that can lead to more peaceful living and well-rounded lives.

In this guide, I will not attempt to tell you whether country cottage fits you better, or if you are more the modern eclectic type.  We all are drawn to different styles, and similar personalities will not necessarily have similar decorating tastes.  But, they will have similar ways of making decisions, evaluating choices, and experiencing the decor in their homes.  Which is why, in this series, I will be focusing on broader concepts and decision making  in your home decor versus specific design styles.

It is believed that the ISTJ may be one of the most abundant of the 16 personality types, making up around 13% of persons. Sometimes known as the duty fullfiller, this type is glue that holds our society together exhibiting much integrity and loyalty to family, organizations, and traditions.

ISTJ’s are typically reserved people who’s primary goals are peaceful and secure living.  Filled with an inner sense of duty, they follow through on tasks and are loyal, faithful, and dependable.  ISTJ’s believe in following laws and traditions and put tremendous effort into completing goals and promises.  These logical, capable, and reasonable individuals

ISTJ Decorating

  • Secure a peaceful home.  ISTJ’s strive for security and peaceful lives.  As you build these into your life, build them into your home as well.  Let your artwork and furnishings be soft and peaceful in appearance.  Use large trim and well-crafted doors to represent the security and well-being of your home.  To feel most at home, your living area should embody the security and peace you seek.

  • Embrace the beauty of structure.  As an ISTJ, you appreciate the beauty in orderly and structured environments.  Celebrate this in how you decorate, and furnish your home.  Arrange your furniture and art with symmetry.  Create uniform galleries, color themes to carry throughout your entire house, and lines and shapes that match.  In this way your home will represent the structure and order you so appreciate in your life.

  • Give yourself the credit.  Often ISTJ’s are perfectionists, expecting much from themselves and failing to acknowledge their own accomplishments.  Take a step back and evaluate the home you built.  It may not be a perfect system, or immaculately decorated, but it is a beautiful picture of you and your family that you should be proud of!  Take time to commend yourself for building your house into a home.

  • Focus on family.   Little in life is more important to you than family and the traditions you share.  Your admirable loyalty and faithfulness for those you love can and should be expressed throughout your home.  Display pictures and notes from loved ones on a gallery board, or frame them around the house.  Incorporate items into your decor that represent what is most important to you so that you and others can be reminded each and every day.

  • Create Organization.  INTJ’s excel at seeing tasks through to completion.  This characteristic combined for your sense of duty to family makes you an excellent home-maker.  Make your home work for you by creating command centers for tasks to be done, cleaning supply closets with all your tools, and a pantry that is stocked and labeled.  You will function better and find peace in a well-organized home that assists you in serving others.

  • Stick to the tried and true. What makes the Duty Fullfiller so integral to the world is their unique loyalty to the traditions, laws, and rules of society.  They are not comfortable breaking these time-honored ways without a very good reason.  Embrace this part of your personality by choosing design elements that play by the rules.  You will feel comfortable and at peace with your decor choices.

Good News for the Duty Fullfiller

1. You can tackle tasks through to completion.  Once you’ve committed to a goal, you have the ability too see it through by defining the action steps, organizing a plan of attack, and accomplishing the project.  Once you view your home as a goal: to create a peaceful and secure environment for yourself and family, you will surely succeed in that task!

2. ISTJ’s have a true sense of space, function, and artistic appreciation.  If you trust yourself and your taste you can rest assured that your home will be tastefully furnished and immaculately maintained.

I’m back again today with another post in the Decorating for your Personality series. Today we’re delving into the characteristics of an ESTP or Promoter.  This the one post in a sixteen part series looking at how your Myers Briggs personality profile affects your decorating choices.  Previously we examined the ISTP (Artisan) and principles they should be considering in their home decor.

Promoters, also known as ‘Doers’ and ‘Persuaders’, make up around 10% of the population.  Famous ESTP’s include Donald Trump, Madonna, Evel Knievel, and Lucille Ball.

ESTP’s are the ultimate salespersons with their excellent enthusiasm and persuasion abilities.  They are ‘doers’ who constantly live in a state of action.  Unfettered by the rules and constraints of society, they are guided by their inner standards.  Enjoying the finer things in life and are often the center of attention at social gatherings.  ESTP’s are spontaneous risk-takers, with innovative, practical, and fun-loving qualities.

ESTP Decorating

  • Just Do It.  As an ESTP, this is what you do best.  Plunging right into the action!  You can’t wait to get your hands dirty.  You’ll be most at peace with your home decorating process if you just get right to it, go with the flow, and don’t bother with excessive planning.  ESTP’s generally avoid theory and prefer practical application and action.  Get to those projects!  They will turn out great 🙂

  • Don’t take style rules too seriously. In general, ESTP’s view rules moreso as ‘guidelines’ rather than mandates.  You have your own beliefs on what is right and wrong, and you’re going to stick to those, even if they go against conventional wisdom.  Apply these characteristics of yourself when furnishing your house.  Don’t be caught up in designer do’s and dont’s!  Stick to what you know to look good and pleasing to you.

  • Take Risks.  Living in the moment, diving into action, relishing drama, acting on the fly… these are all terms that describe the ESTP’s way of life.  When decorating for your own home, let it be a reflection of these attributes of yourself.  Take some style risks!  Buy that crazy wall hanging that caught your eye!  And take joy in the whole crazy, off-the-cuff process.

  • Solicit other for help.  Of all the Myers Briggs types, the Promoter makes the best salesman.  They contain enthusiasm and ability to motivate others to action, also they are observant of others and can read their reactions extremely well.  Use this skill of yours to get some DIY home help!  Soliciting others is likely second nature to you and you will have more hand than you know what to do with.

  • Bring projects full circle.  While Promoters tends to be great at diving headfirst into projects, they sometimes struggle when it comes to finishing them up.  Set yourself up for success in your projects by deciding to tie up loose ends before beginning new ones.  Also, have others around you who tend to be great finishers and they can help you along in this weak spot.

  • Embrace change. Allowing yourself to have home decor you can change out at a whim will help facilitate several aspect of your personality.  ESTP’s are fast-moving individuals who have a keen appreciation for the finer things in life.  While this makes them exciting people to be around, this can pose issues for decorating on any sort of budget.  To help accommodate your desire for change and nice things, invest in quality, neutral, larger pieces so that you can splurge on the accessories and still be able to switch out on a whim.

I’m back again today posting in the Decorating for your Personality series. We’re going to take a look at the ISTP, also known as the Artisan, Crafter, or Mechanic.  This is one post in a sixteen part series looking at how one’s Myers Briggs personality profile affects their decorating choices.  Last time we analyzed ENTJ (Executive) and principles they should be considering in their home decor.

How fun are the nicknames given to the ISTP? Artisan, Crafter, and Mechanic, I mean these people clearly have skills!  Interestingly, this type is much more common in men (about 9% of males) than women (only 2%).  Also, I find it interesting that ISTP’s are into some crazy awesome stuff, here are some of their hobbies: sky-diving, comedy, aviation, motorcycles, scuba-diving, hunting, and other extreme sports.

ISTP’s are great at logical analysis and applying their rationale to practical issues.  Their strong reasoning powers, adaptability, and sense of details often affords them excellent technical skills.  They are independent thinkers who need to make decisions for themselves based on impartiality and facts. ISTP’s enjoy action and adventure; they’re optimistic and cheerful individuals who take pride in their actionability and avoid constrictive commitments.

ISTP (Decorating for the Artisan) | Mrs. Fancee

ISTP Decorating

  • Apply logic.  Artisan’s are excellent at analysis and logical thinking, but they would much rather apply it to a practical issue than think abstractly.  As an ISTP, put your reasoning powers to good use in how you furnish and decorate your home.  Is the furniture layout optimal for applicable uses of the room?  Could you store your pantry items more efficiently?  Think about how your home works and where it can be taken apart and put back together in a superior way.

ISTP (Decorating for the Artisan) | Mrs. Fancee

via

  • Exercise your freedom. ISTP’s are not confined by rules or regulations.  They are independent individuals who need to have the freedom to make their own choices – even if that means coloring outside the lines at times.  Embrace this trait as you decorate your home.  Who says Christmas trees have to be made out of trees?  Why shouldn’t you paint the floors?  Give yourself permission to be you, even if some ‘experts’ might do it different.

ISTP (Decorating for the Artisan) | Mrs. Fancee

via

  • Create a space for you. ISTP’s make judgements impartially, based on facts.  Because this is so important to them, they can often suppress their own feelings in order to make sure each decision they make is objective.  In order to sort these things out properly, as an Artisan, you need time along to think.  Designate a area in your home that can be yours where others know you need a little space.  Then you will be able to work out those conflicts in a rational and logical way, exactly what you do best!

ISTP (Decorating for the Artisan) | Mrs. Fancee

via

  • Embrace change and adventure.  As an ISTP you likely have enjoy some type of adventurous activity that may seem crazy to other personality types!  You are fearless and enjoy being in the middle of the action.  Because of this, you can often become bored rather quickly.  Don’t let the colors, patterns, and textures of home bore you; home should be a place that excites and inspires!  Give yourself permission to spice things up as life goes on.  Pair neutral furniture with fun, playful accessories that you can change up on a whim for cheap.

ISTP (Decorating for the Artisan) | Mrs. Fancee

via

  • Buy in store.   Trust me on this one, as an Artisan you will be much happier with your home decor purchases if you can touch and see before you buy.  Because you have such excellent hand-eye coordination, sense of detail, and technical skill, you will be able to judge the quality of a piece much better in person.  Besides, as a spontaneous personality, you never know what you may end up coming home with!

ISTP (Decorating for the Artisan) | Mrs. Fancee

via

  • Lend a hand.  You may at times feel like the ‘jack of all trades, master of none.’  But to other personality traits who can become petrified by taking-action, non-detail oriented, or unable to tie up loose ends, you seem like Bob the Builder.  Don’t hoard all your technical expertise to yourself, lend a helping hands to those you care about 🙂  They will surely appreciate it!

ISTP (Decorating for the Artisan) | Mrs. Fancee

via

Good News for the Artisan

1.  You build all things for fun and learning.  While others may consider projects and tinkering to be a chore, or even frustrating, you enjoy it.  What a gift!  Your sense of humor, practical realism, and pride in your ability to to take the next correct step make house projects a fun experience.

ISTP (Decorating for the Artisan) | Mrs. Fancee

via

2. An Artisan follows through and ties up loose ends.  Again, while you may take this for granted, many others struggle with finishing what they began and doing so well.  This is something you excel in.  Enjoy your home as each project is completed all the way through.

ISTP (Decorating for the Artisan) | Mrs. Fancee

via

For ISTP’s it is key to find an environment where you can work with good friends who understand your style, spontaneity, need for freedom, and hands-on approach to life.  Having these people alongside of you as you strive to make your home a reflection of you will make the process that much more rewarding.

Hello, and welcome to the Decorating for your Personality series. Today we’re looking at ENTJ, also known as the Executive.  This the next post in a sixteen part series looking at how your Myers Briggs personality profile affects your decorating choices.  Last week we looked at INTJ (Mastermind) and principles they should be considering in their home decor.

ENTJ’s make up only 2% of the population.  They are natural leaders who can take charge and make quick decisions.  Famous ENTJ’s include Steve Jobs, David Letterman, Margaret Thatcher, and Whoopi Goldberg.  Here are a few fun facts and statistics on the Executive: of all types, they are least likely to report work or finance related stress.  They’re among the most likely to stay in college and maintain a high GPA.  And they’re one of two types most likely to feel satisfied in their work.

ENTJ’s are born natural leaders who see a world of possibilities and challenges for them to conquer.  They are quick with complexities and absorbing large amounts of data, and are often extremely career focused.  They make decisions quickly and decisively and are tireless with the efforts on the job.  ENTJ’s enjoy being with people and engaging in stimulating and challenging conversation.  Overall, the Executive is innovative, assertive, and a long-range thinker with the ability to create actionable possibilities from ideas and theories.

ENTJ the Executive | Decorating for your Personality | Mrs. Fancee

ENTJ Decorating

  • Turn Issues into Solutions.  ENTJ’s tend to view the world as full of possibilities where there are challenges for them to overcome.  As an ENTJ you have the drive and ambition to conquer the issues in your life, and also in your home.  Where are there trouble spots that just do not work for your place?  Maybe it’s a flow issue, or lack or space; maybe it’s colors and patterns that are clashing.  Whatever it may be, harness your take-charge problem solving skills and get to work resolving!  Then you will be able to take pride in seeing your work and the efficiency and structure it brings to your home.

ENTJ the Executive | Decorating for your Personality | Mrs. Fancee

via

  • Create a Meeting Place. Extroverts enjoy being around people; as an ENTJ you particularly enjoy lively and challenging conversations with others.  And especially if they are in the context of organizational meetings that you direct.  Whether it’s for three friends getting together to discuss the latest twist in a mystery novel, or fifteen people meeting to discuss the future of the home-owner’s society, facilitate a place where stimulating discussion can occur.  You will enjoy the company and excitement of achieving goals in your own home.

ENTJ the Executive | Decorating for your Personality | Mrs. Fancee

via

  • Visualize the Future.  You have a unique ability to picture long-range goals and the way things are projected to be.  Apply this to your home and take charge of your decorating goals.  Seeing the future that your house holds will help energize you to achieve the tasks at hand and help you appreciate the work that you are doing in it now.

ENTJ the Executive | Decorating for your Personality | Mrs. Fancee

via

  • Dispense Grace.  At some point someone may be helping you clean or decorate your home and make a major mistake.  Now, ENTJ’s in general strongly dislike errors and inefficiency and also can offer their judgments very freely before considering others’ feelings.  Someone may do something that drives you crazy, but try and remember that people work better under encouragement than disapproval.  Dispense some grace in those situations take the opportunity to help them improve in accuracy and efficiency.

ENTJ the Executive | Decorating for your Personality | Mrs. Fancee

via

  • Lead.   Taking the lead in a project or situation is second nature to an ENTJ.  Use this skill as you look to decorate your home to organize and provide guidance to those willing to help.  Host a ‘projects’ day where you trade pizza and cookies for some good ‘ole fashioned barn raising.  You can not not assemble, direct, and communicate end goals with people, why not do so with your home projects?  With your authority and ability to delegate, you are guaranteed to achieve much!

ENTJ the Executive | Decorating for your Personality | Mrs. Fancee

via

  • Systemize.  As an ENTJ, you have the ability to take in large amounts of data (or an overwhelming amount of un-decorated wall space, for instance) and process it quickly and meaningfully.  This skill will keep you from being overwhelmed by the home decorating process.  Instead, view it as a project that needs systematizing and prioritization.  Which rooms must be tackled first?  How will you do it?  What is the most efficient procedure?  Do your closets make sense?  Can you have more efficient kitchen storage?

ENTJ the Executive | Decorating for your Personality | Mrs. Fancee

via

Good News for the Mastermind

1.  You are quick and decisive.  As an ENTJ, you will likely never have to suffer the woes of having paint chips taped to your walls for months, agonizing over which to choose.  No, you know what you want and are a take-charge personality.  Your decorating process will go much smoother and be more efficient because of it (two this an ENTJ like you holds highly!)

ENTJ the Executive | Decorating for your Personality | Mrs. Fancee

via

2. You have the power of presence.  Other people take you seriously.  When you have personal power, there is much to be gained.  Not only will people respect you more, they will want to try your ideas.  Also, if they are aiding in your home decor process they will likely allow you to wield the ultimate decision-making power.

The INTJ Mastermind is also known as the Scientist, but personally I like mastermind better.  I feel like ‘scientist’ just puts the INTJ in a box which is unfair.  INTJ’s are dynamic personalities who live in a world of ideas and strategic planning.  They look at life as similar to a chess game, always calculating their next move and what the outcome will be.  Few and far between, this type makes up only 2% of the population with women at 0.8%.  Katniss Everdeen, the beloved heroine of the Hunger Games, is a great example of the Mastermind personality, along with Dr. House and Gandalf.

INTJ’s are supreme strategists who value knowledge, intelligence, and competency.  They are extremely insightful and observant of the world around them, and they use this insight to generate ideas.  Unlike the INTP, though, who delves deeper and deeper into the ideas, INTJ’s prefer to apply ideas in useful ways.  They can sometimes find it difficult to express their ideas and conclusions to others.  Overall, INTJ’s are self-confident, ambitious, long-term thinkers, who bring process improvements and structure to our world.

INTJ Decorating

  • Curate a Library.  INTJ’s have a beautiful thirst for knowledge.  They value intelligence and competence.  Books spread and share the wealth of knowledge to everyone.  Is there a more beautiful or practical way to display what is important to you than curating your own library?

INTJ the Mastermind | Decorating for your Personality | Mrs. Fancee

via

  • Preserve a Thinking Space. The mastermind spends a significant amount of time in his or her own thoughts weighing out decisions, planning ahead, and coming up with practical applications.  It is important that your home has a space where you feel comfortable getting lost in your thoughts and are able to think clearly and be inspired.

INTJ the Mastermind | Decorating for your Personality | Mrs. Fancee

via

  • Strategize Your Space.  You are a supreme strategist.  No one can come up with the optimal traffic flow, seating arrangement, or kitchen layout for your own home than you can.  INTJ’s observe their environment and generate new ideas and systems.  They are objective and adaptable, allowing for unique and inventive solutions.  Put those super skills to work in making your house a functional and well-oiled machine that works for you!

INTJ the Mastermind | Decorating for your Personality | Mrs. Fancee

via

  • Use Patterns.  The mastermind has been known to view life as a giant chessboard.  Calculating each move carefully and deliberately, and attempting to anticipate the outcomes.  They analyze systems, and pick up on patterns around them.  Celebrate this skill and decorate your home in patterns and rhythms that make sense to you.

INTJ the Mastermind | Decorating for your Personality | Mrs. Fancee

via

  • Shop Alone.   Often times INTJ’s have fabulous and well-thought out ideas, but they have a difficult time articulating them to others.  This can result in frustration on your part when others fail to understand the logic behind your idea.  When you shop for your house, leave the Feeling types at home and go by yourself.  Once you have everything put together they will be able to see the idea behind the purchase and no one gets frustrated in the process 🙂

INTJ the Mastermind | Decorating for your Personality | Mrs. Fancee

via

  • Throw Tradition to the Wind.  While INTJ’s are all for systems and processes, they are never bound by the ways of the past.  Continually seeking improvement and new, creative solutions, they ask the question, “could it work better?”  And quite often the answer is yes!  So forget never mixing metals… does every window need a dressing? …is open concept truly the answer?  Throw rules out the window and figure out for yourself what really functions.

INTJ the Mastermind | Decorating for your Personality | Mrs. Fancee

via

  • Organize to Improve Efficiency. We talked early about the flow and functions of your home, now let’s talk about the organization and efficiency.  Messiness and inefficiency drive Masterminds batty.  Employ organizing systems and decorating tactics to combat these elements and make your home more peaceful.  Think about the best cupboard organization.  Do you have accessible toy bins with lids for easy toy cleanup?  Are you cleaning supplies hidden but very accessible?  Creating organization and efficiency will help you focus your thoughts and creative energy while in your home.

Good News for the Mastermind

1.  You are deliberate and ambitious.  Your self-confidence propels you into projects head first and they are often well-thought out in advance making them very likely to succeed.  As an INTJ, you are a long-term thinker, so your projects won’t fail from shortsightedness.  Make sure to balance your feeling and sensing side, so you are considerate of others through the process and don’t miss important details.

INTJ the Mastermind | Decorating for your Personality | Mrs. Fancee

via

2. You’re rationally unorthodox.  You are unfettered by the way things have always been done.  Your objectivity allows you to see the way things could be better.  Weigh out all the strategies, and decide in the end what is most functional for you and your home.

INTJ the Mastermind | Decorating for your Personality | Mrs. Fancee

via

INTJ’s represent such an interesting paradigm: they are the most starry-eyed idealists and yet the bitterest of cynics.  While they see an endless amount of possibilities and generally believe nothing is impossible, they doubt the motivation and selflessness of people to accomplish these dreams.  Nevertheless, this doesn’t stop them from doing what they can to improve the world and their own household.  How have you improved or rethought something in your own life?  I truly admire the strategic mind of the INTJ!!

Welcome back to Decorating for your Personality. Today we’re delving into ENFP, decorating for the Inspirer.  This is one post in a sixteen part series looking at how your Myers Briggs personality profile affects your decorating choices.  Most recently we looked at ESFP (Performer) and principles they should be considering in their home decor.

ENFP, also known as Champion or Advocate, are most recognized for their contagious enthusiasm.  Women ENFP’s are fairly well represented at 10% of the population while men ENFP’s make up 8%.  Famous persons with this personality type include: Bill Clinton, Julie Andrews, Dr. Seuss, and Robin Williams (what a fun bunch to be associated with!).

ENFP’s are people-oriented individuals with a focus on possibilities.  They spread their excitement over new ideas to those around them and are excellent motivators and encouragers.  Extremely well-spoken, ENFP’s can navigate conversations with ease and be very persuasive.  They are very aware of themselves, but must take time alone to ‘re-center’ so that their emotional excitement over new things doesn’t make them lose touch with their values.  Overall, Inspirers are warm, energetic, and ingenuous risk-takers, with many diverse talents.

ENFP (The Inspirer) | Decorating for your Personality | Mrs. Fancee

ENFP Decorating

  • Bring Excitement.  One of the most beautiful qualities of an ENFP is their overflowing excitement and joy for life.  It’s contageous!  Show your infectious enthusiasm in the colors, styles, and forms you use to decorate your home.  Go bold, or subtely dramatic.  Whatever helps excite you, display it.  Get giddy at the site of marble?  Try an accent backplash.  Are you inspired by the beauty of music?  Paint lyrics on the wall.  Reds, oranges, pinks! Whatever helps excite you, incorporate that into your house and share it with others.  Be intense, that’s you!

ENFP (The Inspirer) | Decorating for your Personality | Mrs. Fancee

via

  • Create Personal Space. Moreso than other Extroverts, ENFP’s need to take time alone to recenter themselves and make sure their passion and enthusiasm is in line with their personal values.  Creating a space for just you to take time and collect your thoughts and evaluate the goings on in life will help you as you pursue your goals.

ENFP (The Inspirer) | Decorating for your Personality | Mrs. Fancee

via

  • Inject Meaning.  ENFP’s seek meaning in everything.  They try to adapt their life according to their personal values and to find inner peace.  Incorporate meaning into your home as a greater reflection of you and the journey of life you are on.  Find a song or verse particularly meaningful?  Frame it.  Have a keepsake or picture that signifies a treasured memory?  Display it proudly.  Let your home reflect what has impacted you most in life.

ENFP (The Inspirer) | Decorating for your Personality | Mrs. Fancee

via

  • Simplify Routine.  Do you find that little mundane everyday tasks are the bane of your existence???  You are not along, ENFP’s commonly view the details of everyday life as drudgery, preferring instead to focus on the world of exciting possibilities.  To free your hands and mind for more interesting endeavors, try and simplify the routines in your life.  You can use your home to help in this arena by creating easily accessible storage for quick cleanup, using a command center to organize your tasks, and creating routines for members of the household to contribute.

ENFP (The Inspirer) | Decorating for your Personality | Mrs. Fancee

via

  • Use your Gifts.   Don’t be afraid to get your hands dirty!  ENFP’s are broadly talented and often good at whatever interests them.  If you’ve been stalking some DIY pins on pinterest for a while, go ahead and try them!  Chances are you will do great 🙂  As a project oriented individual, you will have the focus it takes to exceed.  Just be careful to practice diligence as it can be easy for an ENFP to move on to another project without finishing the first.

ENFP (The Inspirer) | Decorating for your Personality | Mrs. Fancee

via

  • Incorporate Others.  The Nurture’s infectious enthusiasm often inspires others to the same cause.  Because of this ENFP’s can be very influential individuals.  Use your persuasion skills wisely and get others involved in your home and the projects and decorating you tackle.  Chances are not only can you convince them to help, but they will enjoy being around such a life-celebrating individual!

ENFP (The Inspirer) | Decorating for your Personality | Mrs. Fancee

via

  • Accommodate People. ENFP’s are people lovers who bring out the best in others.  They place a high importance on relationships and are often well-liked.  Let your great people skills infuse into your home decor and furniture arrangements.  Use seating configurations that maximize personal conversation.  Create a gathering area around the kitchen so you can spend time with others while you cook.  Incorporate the people you love into your home!

ENFP (The Inspirer) | Decorating for your Personality | Mrs. Fancee

Good News for the Inspirer

1.  You are risk-taker.  Where others may be afraid to even try, you have the guts and passion to go-for-it and try crazy things!  You’re home can be a bold expression of your talents and zest for life.

ENFP (The Inspirer) | Decorating for your Personality | Mrs. Fancee

2. You’re brimming with ideas and possibilities.  Where others may see a blank wall, you see great potential!  It is a gift to be full of so much inspiration.  This will carry through in your home ideas and decorating for a creative and beautiful home.

Welcome back to Decorating for your Personality.  In this post we’ll take a look at ESFP, decorating for the Performer.  This is one post in a sixteen part series delving into how your Myers Briggs personality profile affects your decorating choices.  Most recently we looked at ISFJ (Nurturer) and principles they should be considering in their home decor.

ESFP the Performer, also known as Provider or Supporter, represent around 12% of the population.  These are our social butterflies, upholders of integral institutions, and true servants to humanity.  Some famous fictional ESFP’s include Monica from Friends, Molly Weasley from Harry Potter, and Baloo from the Jungle Book.  For a more indepth analysis of the ESFP, visit here.

This is a fun type for me to write because I think of my best friend who is inbetween the ESFP and ESFJ.  I totally see some of these awesome traits in her, like her constant overflow of bubbly joy, and her carefree spirit.  She may deny it, but put her with a group of people and she is definitely the life of the party 🙂

ESFP’s thrive on people and new exciting experiences.  They are the sympathetic team players that help mitigate conflict and create a fun environment for everyone.  These spontaneous and optimistic individuals don’t deal too much with theory, but live in the concrete world of hands-on application, and practical advise.  The ESFP resist structure and routine. Overall this loving type is flexible, kind-hearted, and gifted with a special ability to enjoy life.

ESFP (The Performer) | Decorating for your Personality | Mrs. Fancee

ESFP Decorating

  • Dramatize your Home.  No, not Desperate Housewives kind of drama…  ESFP’s thrive on new experiences, excitement and the drama of life.  Their fun-loving, spontaneous nature should be proudly displayed in their home.  Be bold, and unexpected in your decorating.  Buying some neutral bases is a great idea, so you can change up accessories (such as pillowcases on a couch) to your heart’s desire!  Bring some drama to your home decor, spice up life to match your fun-loving personality.

ESFP (The Performer) | Decorating for your Personality | Mrs. Fancee

via

  • Go with the Flow. As a Performer, you have a wonderful ability to improvise in all situations and function best without the constraints of structure and routine.  Don’t worry about following decorating ‘rules,’ follow your instincts and your home will be a more beautiful as a true reflection of yourself.

ESFP (The Performer) | Decorating for your Personality | Mrs. Fancee

via

  • Learn by Doing.  Want to try something in your home, but you’re not sure how it will turn out?  ESFP’s are hands-on learners.  ‘Just do it’ might as well be your new motto, because it is the best way for you to experience new ideas as a Performer.  While some personalities prefer to theorize and plan lengthily on a project they are thinking of, ESFP’s live in the here and now.  Learning to get your hands dirty on that project you’ve wanted to try is a key step in your home decor success.

ESFP (The Performer) | Decorating for your Personality | Mrs. Fancee

via

  • Offer Solutions.  The ESFP tends to be extremely observant of others’ feelings, sensing when they are in distress.  While not prone to offering theoretical advice, the Performer is excellent at providing a solution to a practical need.  Set up your home so that it supports this delightful trait.  Have your guest rooms stocked with a basket of emergency supplies.  Create a coffee or tea bar for those days when a neighbor needs a warm drink.  Let your home be a safe environment that is always ready to provide help for those in need.

ESFP (The Performer) | Decorating for your Personality | Mrs. Fancee

via

  • Trust Yourself.   ESFP’s tend to have a strong appreciation for aesthetic beauty, and an excellent understanding of space and function.  They tend to make decisions based on their personal values.  In addition, the Performer often delights in the finer things in life.  Considering all these traits, the ESFP ought to trust their instincts in home decorating and they are likely to end up with a beautiful home.  No second guessing! 😉

ESFP (The Performer) | Decorating for your Personality | Mrs. Fancee

via

  • Celebrate Life.  The Performer’s wonderful joy for life often displays itself in an acute appreciation of children, animals, and nature.  Celebrate your overflow of joy and spread it to others through how you furnish your home.  If you have kids, create a fun kids room with creative aspects.  Consider adding bird houses and feeders across your yard.  If you’re a green thumb, bring the outdoors in with houseplants and window flowers.

ESFP (The Performer) | Decorating for your Personality | Mrs. Fancee

via

  • Eliminated Stress. Stress and an ESFP do not mix well together.  Anxiety can foster negative thinking which becomes overwhelming to the Performer.  Furnish and decorate your home in a way that minimizes stress and situations that create it.  If mess stresses you, try and organize your home so that clutter can be contained behind doors and items’ homes are within a convenient reach.  Incorporate decoration items that soothe and bring peace into your home such as candles and light dimmers.

ESFP (The Performer) | Decorating for your Personality | Mrs. Fancee

via

Good News for the Nurturer

1.  For the Performer, your home is your stage.  Display your unique and fun-loving personality in the colors and quirks of your house.  Sharing yourself with others is extremely important to the ESFP, you can achieve this in the ways you furnish and decorate your home.

ESFP (The Performer) | Decorating for your Personality | Mrs. Fancee

via

2. You’re a natural host/ess.  While others way be unsure on the ins and outs of entertaining and helping others feel at ease within their own homes, Performers can effortlessly transform their home into a fun and comfortable environment for all who enter.

Thanks for reading these decorating tips and tricks for the Performer or ESFP.  I’m always so inspired by your incredible ability to enjoy life and spread your joy to those around you.  Any ESFP’s who have learned to throw away the rules and trust their instincts?  I’d love to hear what you tried!  Or how you are able to celebrate life within your home.  Let me know what you think, and thanks for reading!  See the full collection below….

Welcome to the latest installment of Decorating for your Personality.  Today we’re looking at ISFJ the Nurturer.  This is part of a sixteen part series looking at how your Myers Briggs personality profile affects your decorating choices.  Most recently we looked at ISFP (Artist) and principles they should be considering in their home decor.

ISFJ’s are one of the largest represented MBTI groups, and let me tell you, I am so thankful!  These types keep our society running smoothly with their generous and caring spirits.  They can proudly call Mother Theresa one of their own.  On a fun note, Dr. John Watson in the Sherlock Holmes stories is also a Nurturer (love those movies!).  For a more indepth analysis of the ISFJ, visit here.

ISFJ’s live in a tangible world; they see the way things ought to be and truly believe the best of people.  They are aware of others’ feelings and have a keen memory for personal details.  ISFJ’s are very reliable and embrace tradition in that they believe in the systems in place are there because they work for the most part.  They are not likely to express their own personal feelings, even though they possess a healthy awareness of them.  Overall, ISFJ’s are warm, generous, and dependable, possessing a unique sensitivity to those around them.

Decorating for your Personality | ISFJ (The Nurturer) | Mrs. Fancee

ISFJ Decorating

  • Nurture Through Decor.  Perhaps more than any other type, the Nurturer has a deep sensitivity to others’ feelings.  Allow this unique ability of yours to shine through in the way you decorate your home.  Invest time personalizing each bedroom to the person it belongs to.  Often the bedroom is the most neglected room in the house, not so for the ISFJ!  Show your attention to others and their personal feelings by creating an atmosphere that reflects the individual.  Or if you live alone, let your home reflect you and your unique feelings (as you also have a keen self-awareness).

Decorating for your Personality | ISFJ (The Nurturer) | Mrs. Fancee

via

  • Trust the System. As an ISFJ, you have a clear idea of way things should be.  Also you believe systems that are in place are there because they work.  Based on this, you will find the most peace in your home when following tried and true methods.  Rule of thumb measurements and decorating tricks based on ratios and apportionment are all great decorating rules to stick by.  Using these will bring you symmetry and balance into your house.

Decorating for your Personality | ISFJ (The Nurturer) | Mrs. Fancee

via

  • Try New Things.  As a personality type that tends toward the traditional, you can experience personal growth by trying new décor themes and techniques in your home.  Often Nurturer’s are not opposed to new ideas, but they must be shown how they function in a concrete way.  Take notice of different styles and new ideas when you visit others’ homes. Ask them how those designs function and how they came to choose them.  Experiencing them tangibly will help give you the confidence to go for it, and get a little creative in your home style!

Decorating for your Personality | ISFJ (The Nurturer) | Mrs. Fancee

via

  • Be Hands-On.  Due to your sensing tendency, you likely learn best by doing rather than reading or applying theory.  This means that when you are DIYing a décor project, you will benefit greatly from video tutorials and other illustrative outlines.  Anything that assists you in the hands-on learning process will be most helpful.  (As an ENTP, this concept is a little hard for me to wrap my head around as I am extremely conceptual vs. hands-on.  But, after considering it for a while, I think the creative process for you ISFJ’s occurs while you carry the project out, versus for me, it’s primarily in the planning stage)

Decorating for your Personality | ISFJ (The Nurturer) | Mrs. Fancee

via

  • Display your Organization.   ISFJ’s have the ability to keep things running smoothly.  You’re extremely dependable and hard workers.  Let your home be your helper as you go about completely your tasks throughout the day.  Display your to-do lists and calendar schedules in attractive ways across your walls.  Not only will this help you keep on top of things, it also serves to remind others of all the behind-the-scenes chores you do to care for and nurture them! 😉

Decorating for your Personality | ISFJ (The Nurturer) | Mrs. Fancee

via

  • Appreciate You.  Nurturer’s tend to place other peoples’ needs before their own. This beautiful quality that helps make this world a better place can also lead to our Nurturer’s being taken for granted and under-appreciated.  Because of this, as an ISFJ, it’s important to build your own wants and needs into the function and décor of your home.  Create a space in your home dedicated to your own rest and relaxation.  Incorporate colors and styles that really make you happy, rather than always deferring to others.  This may be easier said than done, but start with little steps: a corner of the living room with your favorite pillows, paint an accent wall the bedroom your favorite color, or hang the lyrics to your favorite song in your living room.

Decorating for your Personality | ISFJ (The Nurturer) | Mrs. Fancee

via

  • Promote Harmony. The Nurturer highly values harmony and cooperation. Promote these qualities within your own home through the way you organize and decorate your home.  Use colors that bring peace such as greens and blues, and consider avoiding large amounts of colors that cause angst or discord like yellow and orange.  Utilize openness as a concept throughout your home to encourage family cooperation and inclusion.

Decorating for your Personality | ISFJ (The Nurturer) | Mrs. Fancee

Good News for the Nurturer

1.  As an ISFJ you have a very well-developed sense of space, function, and aesthetic.  Particularly because of your Sensing characteristic, your attention to detail is great.  Often Nurturers have beautifully furnished and functional homes.  Your affinity for the physical world and its aesthetic and form allow you to furnish and decorate your home in a way that flows extremely well and is attractive and appealing to the eye.

Decorating for your Personality | ISFJ (The Nurturer) | Mrs. Fancee

via

2. Your combined assets of physical awareness and sensitivity to others make you an excellent gift giver.  One way you can express this ability is by gifting others the comfortable environment of your home.  Achieve this by creating a warm and welcoming feel, offering plenty of space for seating and relaxation, and having helpful amenities (such as coffee, extra towels, or snacks) easily at hand.

Decorating for your Personality | ISFJ (The Nurturer) | Mrs. Fancee

And there you have it, decorating considerations for ISFJ (the Nurturer).  I’d love to hear from you ISFJ’s out there and how you use your ability to pour into others through your home.  Do you have a hard time recognizing your own accomplishments?  Let me know what you think, and thanks for reading!  See the full collection below….

It’s been a little while since the last Decorating for you Personality post, but I’m excited to be back and bringing you the ISFP post of the series.  This is part of a sixteen part series looking at how your Myers Briggs personality profile affects your decorating choices.  Several weeks ago we analyzed the ESFJ (Caregiver) type, and today we’re taking a look at ISFP (Artist).

I’m very excited to delve in the ISFP as their type is basically made for decorating!  They thrive on change, the aesthetic, and are original and independent creators.  While the title ‘Artist’ is very fitting of this type, I worry that it puts them in a box.  The ISFP, while extremely creative and in tune with the five senses, is also strongly characterized by their unique ability to serve others, their keen perceptive abilities, and their independent spirit.  For a more indepth analysis of the ISFP, visit here.

ISFP’s live in the here and now – innately intune with their senses and perceptive of those around them.  They have a strong affinity for beauty and aesthetic, appreciating nature and animals.  Action-oriented individuals, ISFP’s are most comfortable in hands-on situations where they can exercise their creativity and independence.  Although Artists are often quiet and reserved, they are deeply caring and service-oriented individuals.  ISFP’s are gifted individuals who excel at artistic expression and serving others.

ISFP Decorating

  • Bring nature in.  Because ISFP’s are so in tune with their senses and surroundings and deeply appreciate beauty, they often truly love nature and animals.  If these aspects inspire you, incorporate them all throughout your home.  Being surrounded by what inspires you will keep you thinking creatively and peacefully.  You can do this in so many ways, frame dried plant or flower art, set up a green room, or use a nature-inspired color pallet.  Try to use naturally derived materials, this will help you feel closer to the outdoors.  You can also incorporate animal prints and textures.

  • Create a personal retreat. As an introvert, you need time to recharge.  Creating an area where you can find personal space will help you stay balanced.  This area can be whatever inspires you, allows you to reinvigorate, or just a space for relaxation.  Decorate your bathroom like a spa with deep soothing colors and fragrant candles.  Convert a spare bedroom into an arts and crafts studio where you can exercise your artistic abilities.  Or, just find a little corner of your home where you can add lots of pillows and stash several good books.

  • Take the risks.  The artist is often considered the most spontaneous and unpredictable of all the types.  Their independent nature and ability to live in the now allows them to embrace risks and take them head on.  Don’t be afraid to use this in your home.  Do you see the potential in those funky eighties chairs at the resale shop?  Take the risk and repurpose them!  Never painted a wall before?  Try stripes or polka dots!  No matter how bizarre an idea, you have the ability to take a chance on it.

  • Embrace the change.  Some would say, the only thing constant for the ISFP is change.  Variety is the spice of life, right?  New and exciting things are in your nature, why shouldn’t they be in your home as well?  Facilitate your propensity to change it up by buying more expensive items in neutral colors and shapes.  Then you can easily switch things up simply with pillow changes, paint, and a new picture

  • Create your Space.   Often considered the most artistic of all the Myers Briggs types, the ISFP has a unique ability for creating and appreciating the aesthetic.  Don’t be afraid to use this incredible gift in your home.  What kind of art do you love most?  Display it as your boldest decor!  Paint a mural on your wall, sew a bright quilt bedspread, arrange your bookshelves masterfully.  Let loose with your creative ability and let your space be a reflection of your personality!

via

  • Enable Service. The ISFP is extremely giving and service-oriented.  They genuinely care for others and often show it through their actions.  Allow yourself to give to others best, by creating enabling spaces in your home.  What is your favorite way to serve others?  If you bake, create an organized and well stocked pantry space so you can whip something up at a moment’s notice.  Whatever way you serve others best, make sure your home is enabling it.  By making room for this part of your life, your home reflects who you are a little more.

via

  • Appreciate it.  As an incredibly talented individual, you may hold yourself to extremely high standards.  While this perfectionism drives you to do your very best, it also can keep you from appreciating your achievements.  Take a step back and recognize all that you’ve accomplished in your home.  Admire your creativity and how your home reflects who you are!

Good News for the Artist

1. You follow your gut.  If you feel something is right, you will stop at nothing to accomplish it.  Not only is this an excellent personal trait, it will help you as you decorate your home.  Many people struggle with which style to choose, whether or not they trust their taste, or if others will like their choices.  You can be confidant in your decorating choices knowing that you were true to yourself and what you love.  Ultimately your home will be a beautiful representation of the person who inhabits it!

2. You’re a doer. You’re an action-oriented individual who has the get-up-and-go it takes to get stuff done.  Because of your hands on nature, you are willing to jump right in and tackle a project.  Others struggle with where to begin, fear of starting wrong, ect.  Take on those home decor projects with gusto, because you aren’t afraid of them and you know exactly what you’re going for!

Welcome back to a 16 part series, looking at how your Myers Briggs personality profile affects your decorating choices.  Last time, we looked at ENTP (Visionary) type, and this week we’re diving into ESFJ(Caregover).

I’m excited to look at the Caregiver with you today, this is Jake’s personality type so I have a special place in my hear for the ESFJ.

So, one of the fun ways to learn more about your personality is to find out which cartoon characters share your type.  But, it the case of the ESFJ, I feel like the fictional characters give this personality a bad rap.  For instance, Rabbit from Winnie the Pooh, and Donald Duck are both ESFJ’s.  Notwithstanding a deeper understanding of the Caregiver, based on the the fictional representations one might think that this personality is very uptight and controlling.  I’ve found that this isn’t the case at all: while the ESFJ does have a desire to order the environment around them, they are also super-fun people persons, energetic, practical, and dependable.  For a more indepth analysis of the ESFJ, visit here.

ESFJ’s are true people persons – they genuinely want to like people and have the ability to bring out the best in others.  They are dependable and responsible: highly valuing security and stability.   Very atuned to the details in life, they see what needs to be done and do it. The Caregiver enjoys creating order and structure in their environment and seeks the affirmation of others.  ESFJ’s are tactful, helpful, enthusiastic and warm individuals.

ESFJ Decorating

  • Create order.  As an ESFJ, chances are you have an excellently organized home.  No packing things into the closet and slamming the door to hold it all in, no shoving dirty clothes under the bed.  You find peace and sometimes even enjoyment in putting things in their proper place and providing structure in your home.  Embrace this wonderful quality that many of us wish we had.  When other types visit your home they will marvel at your neat cupboards and straigtened book shelves.  Then, maybe help a friend out who lacks this trait with their spring cleaning!

  • Entertain. Sometimes stereotyped as the hosts and hostesses of the world, ESFJ’s are people persons through and through.  They can bring out the best in others which makes them desirable people to be around.  The Caregiver is happiest when others are at ease.  Create an entertaining space in your home where others feel comfortable and cared for.  Plenty of cushy seating, space in the kitchen to talk, a media room.  If you add these extra touches, you can make your home a perfect entertaining space.

via

  • Embrace tradition.  The Caregiver values traditions and prefers to follow the established ways.  Embrace this aspect of your personality in your home by incorporating decor that makes you feel comfortable.  Did your mother have a similar piece in her home?  Do you love the colonial style for its classic timelessness?  Add touches of traditions that are meaningful to you throughout your home.

via

  • Establish routine.  Again, you are an excellent organizer, and as such you likely prefer and thrive under a routine.  Incorporate your daily routine into your home decor.  Display the weekly calendar in your kitchen.  Create a space in your mudroom to organize your coats and boots for the week.  Place your cleaning supplies in bins for each task.  This is your forte!  Embrace your inner Martha Stewart 🙂  (who happens to be an ESFJ just like you!)

via

  • Be practical.   Practicaltiy is one of the Caregiver’s strengthes.  But, it is also the reason you should not buy marble countertops.  They may be gorgeous, but your Sensing/Judging personality will never get over the stains, scratches and marks that will inevitable appear.  And, you would drive yourself crazy trying to prevent said things from happenning.  Remember to consider function over form in your home decor, because it will bring you more peace in the end.  (Quartz is an excellent stain resistant, low-maintenance option ;))

via

  • Embrace your femininity. (or masculinity)  Oftentimes ESFJ’s are very feminine (or for males: masculine) and enjoy aspects of life associated with their gender.  If this is you, proudly show your feminine preferences throughout your home.  Get lacey curtains, fluffy pillows, or a flowery bedspread.  When your home reflects you, you will feel more at peace and in tune with yourself.

via

  • Accept the chaos.  There will be times in your life where things simply won’t be orderly, organized, or structured.  Certainly if you live with other personality types you will experience some level of dissaray and chaos in your home.  While, as an ESFJ, this may drive you crazy and you will have the urge to control the situation and bring order, sometimes it’s good to learn to let go.  Learning this within your own home will help you throughout life when you feel the need to control a situation that is out of your hands.  Sometimes you must relinquish.

Good News for the Caregiver

1. You are the ultimate details person.  You see what needs to be done, and what needs to be done to get that done.  This is what makes you a great organizer and a do-er.  And, it helps prevent mishaps along the way.  By being able to think things through before you begin, you have a good picture of what you want in your home and what it will take to get there.

via

2. You seek and provide closure. Your practicality and attention to detail allow you follow through on the projects you work on.  In fact if someone leaves something unfinished you are the one likely to pick it up and complete the task.  Some types are very envious of this innate ability (Me, an ENTP, in fact), so use it proudly when you decorate your home and are able complete a room in less than a year 😉
