Or at least some anyway…. In typical ‘me’ fashion I grossly underestimated the amount of time this project would take. I legitimately thought that we could floor our entire home in two weekends. Oh how misguided I was.. But, you live and you learn, and I am just so grateful to have any flooring in at all!
Check out how the new floor totally transforms the space! Â I think it just adds a touch of luxury to the rooms that was certainly lacking before. Â We went with an engineered wood because of durability, price, and because they came pre-finished. Â (If I can avoid weeks of hardwood sanding dust consuming our home, I will take that opportunity!)
The decision on what floors to choose seemed to drag on forever…. Â I shared some of the criteria we were looking for in a wood flooring and it just seemed like nothing could hit all our requirements while still being a bargain price (imagine that!). Â After weeks of looking, we decided to go with these 7″ hickory planks in a medium colored finish sight unseen from Home Depot. Â So yeah, we literally ordered all the flooring for our entire house without ever seeing it… Â It had all the criteria we wanted at a decent price (they were on overstock). Â Thankfully it came in, and we loved it!
Jake’s parents came last weekend and helped up get started on our flooring journey.  Which was a huge help since neither of us actually know what we’re doing (with anything really 😉 ).  We finished up the living room last week and worked Saturday and Sunday on flooring the rest of the first floor.
Although we’ll eventually install the same flooring throughout the kitchen and dining room as well, we decided to leave it as-is for now because we could be potentially knocking down a wall that would affect the flooring install.  As a short-term permanent-ish solution to the transition, Jake came up with this fancy configuration.  We used some of the laminate we pulled up to patch the spaces.
And just check out our fancy shmancy workshop space.  Very conveniently located, not so conveniently dusty…  Basically our home is currently covered in a layer of sawdust.  We are considering relocating our saw location for second floor installation, like possibly in the garage so our bedrooms won’t be covered in filth 🙂
The hallway was very rewarding because it went so quickly. Â We still need to finish up the entry closet though. Â It’s so nice to enter the home and have this beautiful flooring in!
After the hallway, we moved on to flooring the den. Â The first row always takes the longest! Â But after we got started, things flew in here! Â Before we avoided entering this room at all costs because the floor was absolutely caked in dust from our popcorn ceiling escapades.
Now that this space is actually useable again, you better believe I have my eye on some Craigslist furniture pieces to start accessorizing the room.  It feels so good to having flooring under-foot (pun intended… 😉 ).  I think we’ll take a flooring recess to return to our half bath renovation.  And I think it’s about time to revisit our schedule this week and see how grossly I underestimated the timing on projects…
I’m not the only one who gets over-ambitious about our DIY abilities, am I?? 😉
WOW!!!!!!! It looks wonderful. I bet it won’t be long before we see furniture in your back room. Job well done.
Thanks to you and Nathan!! And you are right I’m already couch shopping for the space 🙂
