Meet the Future Homeowners!!!

Yes, you read that right…  And, I know, I can hardly believe it either!  This craziness is becoming real life!!!  As of Wednesday last week we officially went under contract for a house.  If all goes as planned – *Knock on wood* – we should be closing in the middle of June.

This cute little charmer in Downers Grove, IL is our soon-to-be humble abode.  Can you see the potential?  (That’s the word of the day, folks, *potential*)  The 1.5 story ranch home on an eclectic residential street is in need of some serious TLC.  I will share the pictures next week when things are a little more finalized, and then you see what I mean.  We’re having the inspection today, and are hoping not to hear any big news…  (When it comes to house inspections, no news is good news!  Can I get an amen?)

We saw the house on our first ever house hunting trip, after one of those polar vortex blizzards last January.  (House hunting in the snow = a very unpleasant experience, expecially when vacant homes do not have plowed driveways…)  It was our favorite home we saw that day, but we weren’t quite convince it was the house for us.  The square footage is on the smaller side, so it was hard to envision entertaining and having people over.

After looking for several more months and putting an offer on one other home (maybe a future post topic?) that didn’t pan out, we began to reconsider the little Downers Grove home.  At that time we had a little better idea of what the market had to offer at what price, and exactly what we were looking for (which wasn’t much to be honest.. pretty much our main criteria were: no water being actively pumped out of the basement while viewing home, and no home that was built right on top of another house so the window looked over an old roof inside a new roof, because, yes, both of those happened.)

We visited the home a second time and decided it was exactly the project we were looking for.  With a little a lot of sweat equity, we think this 1930’s house could be a real charmer.  So, we put an offer down, and after a week of negotiation we agreed on a price, and here we are!  Scared, excited, and ready to begin our lives in a new home!

The day we found out they accepted our offer, I think I was in shock.  Like, could this actually be happenning???  It’s so comfortable to dream about and plan homes that aren’t mine, but this… this is real!  It must have really got to me, because during lunch at work that day I managed to drop my bowl of homemade meatballs and covered our entire lunchroom with marinara sauce.  I’m talking chairs, tables, and floor… all in front of a bunch of coworkers.  Yeah.  That’s not the worst part, it dropped right next to a manager who got completely covered with burning hot meatball sauce.  I mean it was in his hair, and on his face, ear, arms, and all over his yellow shirt……….

*Can I crawl in a hole and never emerge???*

He had to go home and shower, and his ear blistered….  Oh me, oh my.  Some days are just not my days 😉  Lesson to be learned: never be in the vicinity while I am reheating anything involing marinara.  Unless you want 2nd degree burns on your face, arm, and ear.

On that happy note ;), be looking out for more house details on the way!!  And have a happy Monday, all 🙂
