Are you a New-Years-Resolution kinda person? See… I am, but I’m also a rarely-follow-thru kinda person. Nevertheless, it is a New Year and I find myself thinking of the good times from 2013 and how 2014 can be even better.
This year has seen so many changes in my life. I finished up my college courses while living at home (Yeah, I did it backwards, four-year-university then community college ;)). While I do miss the carefree nature of college, I am grateful to never have homework again!
I planned our wedding. And GOT MARRIED! 🙂 Phew, do I miss all the fun and excitement of that time!!! I adored planning it, and this event was a result of years of planning (most of it in my accounting notebooks during lecture..) Being married is the best, and I’m so glad to have spent the latter half of 2013 with my better half.
I got to be a study-at-home-wife last summer, where I enjoyed the laid back days of CPA studying and learning to cook dinners. While sometimes I struggled with feeling like I wasn’t doing enough with my days, I’m glad I was able to enjoy the restful time and just be a newlywed.
I started a blog! Fancee that…. 😉 And, apparently my jokes have not gotten better. Nevertheless, it has been super fun being able to share my thoughts and projects here with you all!!! If you’re interested in seeing a year in review for this blog, hop over here to check it out. 🙂
I started a big-girl job. That one’s still weird to me, but here I am… working in a cubicle each day preparing international tax forms. I am so grateful to be where I am, though. There is no doubt that God picked this job just for me.
And, finally I got to celebrate a Merry Christmas with wonderful family. Jake and I had our own little version of a Christmas tree on our apartment wall. Isn’t it so cute, and perfect for apartment living? 🙂 And yes, there are now many holes in our wall…. nothing a little plaster can’t fix!
This year I had a little fun with the gift wrapping and chose this neat polka-dot wrapping paper from Target. It was perfect for what I had in mind: pompoms! I made the big red one out of thick yarn and glued some littler pompoms onto the paper.
When you get married, your Christmas gatherings multiple! So,while we were busy this season, we were blessed to be able to spend lots and lots of time with family 🙂 During our time with Jake’s family, we were able to stop by Shore Acres, the park where we took many of our wedding pictures at. It was so fun to visit and remember that special day!
Maybe this will become a new Christmas tradition for us! Pictures at Shore Acres. (like the cheetah scarf Jake got me? 🙂 )
Looking forward to this new year I have a few resolutions to share (they’re nothing new or novel, just areas to improve on).
In 2014 I Want To….
Take more pictures. I never, ever, ever am that person who remembers to take pictures at those important events, or fun silly moments. But, I want to always, always, always remember these fun times that Jake and I are sharing as newlyweds. So… I am resolved to remember to take pictures, somehow. I even recently got a phone with a much better camera, so I have no excuse!
Be more active. I know everyone, and their mother have something akin to this on their New Year’s Resolution list. Exercise/workout/run more etc… But I don’t mind being unoriginal, I really would like to be a more active person. Working a desk job every day + coming home and making dinner + watching a show at night = zero excercise. I’m just not a ‘gym’ kinda girl, but I like to be active, move around and keep my body healthy. It’s so much harder in the winter, because walks this time of year are less than pleasant. Nevertheless, in 2014 I’d like to adjust to working by incorporating more physical activity into my lifestyle.
Eat healthier. Wow, boring again, I know. It’s only on everyone’s list…. but if I don’t put it on here, maybe I won’t do it!!! So, in 2014 I would like to eat healthier. Have eggs for breakfast instead of cereal, make a salad to bring for lunch instead of a sandwich and chips, and maybe snack a little less in the evenings. I know that the upcoming months (tax season) will be crazy busy, and those fatty foods will be crazy tempting. Because of that, I need to take extra care of what I’m feeding myself.
‘Do’ more. So, I kinda put this one on the list several weeks ago when I was feeling all motivated and ready to get out there and tackle all sorts of projects. I’m not saying that I don’t still want to do that, but I think the Christmas busyness has sucked a little of that motivation out of me. But, I’m sure once we are able to put our apartment back in order and get into our normal routine, I’ll be itching to ‘do’ stuff again! So, that’s super vague I know… but at least I know what I mean (try more recipes, make more crafts, tackle more projects, clean more??, decorate more) You know, it’s all those pinterest ideas that you want to try but never do!
Pray more. With a million billion things running around in my mind, I find it difficult to clear my head and just talk to God. I guess at the root of the thing, I lack patience and quiet. All of those other resolutions are great and all… but really the most important thing I can strive for in 2014 is to know and love God deeper.
Thanks for reading my little recap and thoughts on this new year! Wishing you all the best as you usher in another chapter 🙂
