Picture Tour of Our New Home!

I think it’s high time I did a picture reveal of our soon to be home-sweet-home!  We’re so excited to be moving in in just 4 days, and I can tell you I’m already brimming with ideas to make the place our own.  I will try to suppress most of those for this post (because they are ridiculously detailed) and just give you the overall idea of the things floating around my head.

(and yes, you can definitely tell which pictures came off the listing, and which I hastily took during inspection on my phone…)

Our New Home | Mrs. Fancee

This is what you see as you drive up, as I mentioned earlier, the lot to the left of us is empty and can’t be developed which is very nice.  I think it’s pretty cute as is, but that doesn’t mean I don’t have a ideas for the exterior.  First, that shrub will be the first to go, it’s too heavy for me.  Maybe some knockout roses instead?  Also, though you can’t tell in the pictures, the siding is in poor shape and will eventually need to be replaced.  So I’m toying with a white board and batten look.  What do you think?

When you walk in the door there is a small entry and to the right is our living room.  Don’t you just LOVE those big windows? So much sunlight 🙂  Although the carpet looks like a nice grey in this picture, it’s really not…. which is too bad, because I kinda dig it in the pic.  Also, I’ve been wondering how people arrange furniture in front of windows without blocking too much light.  Maybe two armchairs and an end table would be less obtrusive than a couch?

Going straight through the entry leads to the breakfast nook and kitchen.  And to the left is the staircase to the second floor.  I would love to refinish these stairs in wood!  (And sorry, really bad phone pic below…)

The living room above opens up to the dining area with two pretty windows.  Can’t wait to get those cabinets out of there, it seems like they really block the light!

You can see there is a small opening into the kitchen from the dining room.  As I will later explain…. I would love to open up this space so it all flowed together!

dining room

I’m envisioning built-in cabinetry along the back wall and a long skinny rustic table with some fun chairs to liven up this space!  And yellow, I keep thinking bright, sunny yellow for some reason 🙂

kitchen

Connecting to the dining room is the kitchen.  It’s a pretty nice size overall.  Lots of space to move around.  *Ideally*  (but possibly not realistically lol) I would like that wall dividing the kitchen and the dining room completely gone.  I really think it would help conjoin the space and give it a more unified, open feel.  Then maybe I could add a skinny kitchen island 🙂

Kitchen minus wall

As you can see, this side of the kitchen is a bit more awkward.  The bathroom wall juts out into the kitchen about 3 feet, sort of disrupting the flow.  But, (I love a good challenge)  I’m thinking of making it a focal wall with some detailed trim work and maybe a command center to hang keys, write grocery lists, etc.

Having the hutch gone should help the jut out feel less awkward as well.  Can you picture it with a tall white board and batten, and a subtle gray upper wall?  Sorry…. I said I wouldn’t get too far into details here 😉

From here you can see how the kitchen connects to the entry, half bath, and basement door.  And below is the connected eat-in area of the kitchen.

eating nook

I think it looks so cheery in this picture!  The big window is so nice and lets in lots of light.  I’m envisioning a little banquet in this space, but we will see… the window goes so low and I don’t want to obstruct it.  So maybe just chairs, or a bench only on the partial wall.  And of course some cute wainscoting 🙂

From here you enter the family room… (and see the doors to the garage and basement)

family room

Beyond the eating nook and behind the garage is this lovely gem 😉  The family room is definitely in need of a lot of work.  Say goodbye to the tiki bar…. and that carpet… and the wood paneling.  We’re thinking this will be the TV/more casual sitting area, and the living room will be a more formal/entertaining room.

Check out those lights!!! So seventies, right? 😉

The family room has a sliding glass door that opens up to the deck and sunroom (eek!  we have a SUNROOM!!!)

backyard

There are a few maple (I think??) trees that are a nice full medium size.  Other than that it is pretty much a blank canvas.  I can’t wait to try my hand at landscaping around the deck and back of the house!

backyard2

As I showed you before, the house backs up to a nature area with power lines.  (Now I know that bothers some people, but for us it is a pittly price to pay for nature in your backyard!)  I can just imagine myself sitting on the deck looking back at that view and listening to the birds while I drink my green mountain coffee in the morning 😉  (that commercial always gets to me…)  And, I see some perfect spots for some raised garden beds!!!  Did someone say cutting garden?? Yes, please 🙂  Oh, and a vegetable garden too!

Well, there you have it, the virtual tour of our soon-to-be home.  I’m sure you’ll be seeing more soon as I slowly share my insane awesome dreams for each room.  And first up the kitchen!!!  I’d love to hear what you all think 🙂  Thanks for tuning in!
